One or two tiny upgrades, from stuff I had lying about. The big thing on the TO DO list is drop the ride height a bit. An inch, maybe 30mm. More than enough. Great on BAD roads - I'm not confident enough to go OFF road - well not yet.
Need to get another 500kms on it so I can get the first inspection done and have the "run in" nanny restrictions off. They were and are necessary though. But the block is starting to free up nicely. The box needs a bit more time, but is loosening nicely.Last edited by barbagris; 08-13-2022, 02:38 AM.

Went to see DMX suspension on Thursday.
They make shocks from scratch - but can sometimes modify the OEM shock. Luckily they knew the Guzzi shock and so set at it. There, on the spot. Stripped, eye-eye length dropped by 13mm - damping set to my weight - nice linear spring. Lifted the forks 2 notches and backed of the preload/damping a bit. Some parts machined from billet.
150 minutes there during which they actively WANT you to walk about and watch. And they show you every single change. Spotless workshop. The whole deal was 300€ - They do a full pre-post analysis of damping (with and without spring), the boss does all test rides personally. Sure, it's a business - but they make you feel special - like family or part of a club. If it wasn't for the music - it would be almost like a monastic experience. No raised voices, calm reigns supreme.
They did my R3 forks - and that was good. But they understand "off-road" bike geometry really well. They have their own MX track out back for proper off roaders. Whole different bike - I mean stunning. It sits lower - and they hit it spot on. More drop would have been a waste.
Happy Pixie. And even happier as heard yesterday that Guzzi have developed a new fuel map.

The actual seat height is not all that different - at a guess about 20mm lower. Less than 10mm Static Sag. But the spring being more compliant means that Dynamic Sag is now lower. The real improvement is that the damping is how it should be. You can always get a low seat; that's another 20mm.
Yes I could go lower still, but don't need to. And it means I don't have to shorten the stand either.
Went for the first service yesterday - New ECU MAP is in too. Could not test much on the way home due to Rush Hour traffic. I may have a trundle at the weekend, but I really need to take the KTM for a blast.
The Guzzi is NOT without it's foibles. But on back roads at (say) 55mph - stunning mileage and thus tank range. And I cannot actually remember the last time I sat on a bike for 3 hours without stopping even for traffic lights, without being seriously uncomfortable in the botty region.
You will need a GOOD local dealer for remapping though. This is becoming an issue with ALL Euro5 bikes. Except maybe the Chinese/Indian ones. This info is from friends who are main dealers too. It's getting harder for multi-marque dealers to keep up.
The New Moto Morini 650 ADV flashed onto my radar recently. https://motomorini.eu/bike/x-cape/?lang=en
And I seriously like the new BSA Goldstar https://www.bsacompany.co.uk/bsa-gold-star/
I'm hanging onto the KTM for a bit, but the V85 may well be my last bike.
Old Granny Guzzi does not count.

Just did the exact same route on the KTM. After 2 hours I was getting "fidgety" and on arriving home - stiff knees and hips. Won't be doing that again. I researched - and have therefore developed.Originally posted by barbagris View PostAnd I cannot actually remember the last time I sat on a bike for 3 hours without stopping even for traffic lights, without being seriously uncomfortable in the botty region.
