    Electronic seat release

Spent to the day working on Edsel. Finally gathered up almost all the goodies I need to setup a push button seat release system. DeCosse 😑 I blame you for this madness. Made up a mounting bracket from a No Parking sign to mount the Volvo S40 trunk actuator. Made a cable to connect the seat release to the actuator from some irrigation tubing and stranded wire leader I got from my tackle box 🀣. Used a micro relay and a Dorman push button momentary switch. Need to pick up a heavier spring for the cable the one I have is not strong enough to return the latch to the closed position. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the Rowe Electronics Amplink installed too.

Finished up the seat release this morning. I’m pleased with the results.

I really like your fishing leader idea.... that’s thinking outside the tackle box 🀠

This is very cool. Maybe you could set up some kits for people to do this on their bikes?

Question - If the battery dies - how do you get under the seat?

I have removed the intake snorkel assembly from under the seat. Makes it quite easy to use a piece of wire with a hook bent on the end to grab hold of the release lever. A little tug and off comes the seat. Tried it this morning to see how hard it would be. I may install an emergency pull cable, we’ll see?

I would always want a backup solution. I still recall stopping to get fuel ages ago and finding the key would not come out of the ignition so I could not unlock the filler cap. Raining, late and 100kms from home. Eventually managed - but since then I make sure I have a backup plan.

I had that happen with not being able to get the keys out of my gas cap on the Blackbird
I eventually figured out that it was designed to not be removable unless cap was closed. Some stupid nanny state idea, no doubt, but really a stretch, I thought

Up grade! Installed an emergency seat release in case the system malfunctions.

And here is a shot of where I located the relays. The one on top is the relay for the seat release. The bottom one will be for the new horns.
