I'm really glad I never bought a GPS, my phone does everything I need. Looks like a gimmick, buy a 25-50$ phone mount instead

I like the GPS because I don't have a large data plan. Also, if there is no service where I get lost, the GPS will save me and find bread crumps for me to follow home. I like this gadget because it is small and cheap. The GPS is a big thing and uses a lot of power. Nice find.

You can now have the map downloaded (via WiFi at home) and in the phone - precisely to avoid draining your data.

After running the garmin zumo gps and Mr. GOOGLE maps on the smart phone. I myself prefer the Garmin. In my truck the phone app is just fine.

Btw, I miss maps. Usually I can memorize a days riding, pull over a couple times when destination gets close for details. Probably be a lost art soon, reading maps. I used to hold over 100 phone numbers in my head, at least, now I don't even know my best friends' numbers, another victim of technology.

I misread something - It does have a backlight. But it's switched by sunset/sunrise timings. Or manually. Just not whether it's light/dark.

Btw, I miss maps.

I miss planning a trip with a map. And I still write a "quick and dirty" road book even with SatNav in the car. I don't miss having to fold/unfold maps on a windy day, in the rain.

My dad would also spend hours planning trips to exotic faraway places (you know - 30 miles or so) making sure he knew every single tiny track road number.

It works and is not at all bad.

Not really. Like I said, I can still rattle off half a dozen numbers of friends from kindergarten, first grade. It's because I enter their name in my phone and never see the number again, just the name. Plus people change numbers. My best friend since I was 4's father is still alive, still has the same number 60 years later, for an unexplainable reason I dialed it once at work and got his dad, the number I meant to call wasn't even similar, no idea what made me do it.

After a hell of a wait for them to get more stock in - I have one at last.
Arrived today - it'll get a whirl tomorrow in the car to compare to the TomTom built into the dash.
And with a bit of luck on the KTM on Thursday.
