Spent the morning properly (questionable) installing the new horns. I had temporarily connected them using the wires running to the original horn. Worked fine for a toot toot, but I was a bit concerned about what might happen If I really laid on the horns in anger. Sometimes I donโt practice anger management very well.
Made up a nice harness using 16ga and 14ga silicone wire all covered up in braided PET loom . Extended the original horn wires down to terminals 86 and 85 to energize the relay. Terminal 30 is fed from the Amplink and 87 is running up to both horns. And a ground run back to the negative bus. Do a quick continuity check and all is looking good, turn on the key push the button. The relay goes click the horns go โโโ(Crickets). Push the button again, same shit.
WTF is going on turn off the key turn it back on push the button relay click and nothing (scratch head a bit) get up off my shop stool push the button again and the horns blast (startled the hell outta me) push the button a couple more times and everything is working just fine turn off the key. What happened, donโt know at this point. I donโt care it is working. Put everything back together and clean up my mess. Start up the bike to go home push the button to hear the horn and nothing relay click but no joy. Shut the bike off (quite pissed at this point) get off push the seat release take off the seat to see what going on. Then the light bulb comes on grab my phone and open the amplink app. There is a 7 second delay set on the circuit that I used to power the horn. Relay coil is being energized by the original horn circuit so there was no delay for that part thus clicky clicky of the relay. Removed the delay on the circuit and all is working as planned.
