Like many items, regulations, requirements in our society, the people who design or make or legislate them them don't ever need to use them. (Ever see a senator mow his own lawn?) Obtuse software is everywhere. Safety stickers on everything, even on your car's visor reminding you to wear a seatbelt even though the damn chimes won't stop until you put them on. Safety gas cans that are impossible to use unless you can pour liquid uphill. Guards and shields on machinery designed by kindergarteners. Everywhere you look, you can see regulations, restrictions, devices, signs and more meant to protect us from ourselves.
I am so sick of some asshole somewhere deciding that they know what is better for me than I do. 99% of us are hindered by the stupidity of the one. Some self-righteous nitwit decides it is up to him to protect the moron from himself but in so doing puts shackles on all of us. The nanny state is all intrusive and will not stop. Safety, or rather the illusion of it, is a powerful controlling mechanism.
Life is never fair; accidents do happen; survival of the fittest is nature's first law. There are risks in everything we do. We can hurt ourselves and others by our actions. We should be held accountable, pay for them and learn from the experience. But to not take risks is to not live.
Our representatives do not have much regard for our ability to conduct our own affairs. Thus, I have little respect for them. And don't give me crap about Democrats or Republicans as they are flip sides of the same controlling coin.
