I suspect it is so that the average voter feels like he or she can identify with the politician. People tend to vote with their hearts and not their heads. Individuals generally feel threatened when confronted by someone whose intellect is superior to their own. If great intelligence and analytical skills were requisite attributes to be a politician, we would have very few of them.

It is impossible to over think things. Ideas seem simple or choices obvious only to those who do not have the intellect to comprehend other possibilities. The world is flat; of course the sun revolves around the earth; the Milky Way galaxy comprises the entire universe; "a rising tide lifts all boats;" and on and on. What is needed is an awareness of a cost/benefit ratio underlying every decision to continue analyzing versus the probability of gain.

Not trying to bust anybody's chops here: my intellect has limits too, and I suffer from over simplification like most others.
