Like MM I should not write anything here. Let me just say I am not a universal fan of β€œThe Law”.

Do you think the cops did that on purpose to the neighbor?
Or do you reckon it was an honest mistake? Perhaps it was negligence for improper diligence.

I would go with the last one, lack of due diligence. It's a very complicated issue , cops have to be able to do their jobs, but shouldn't have absolute power. Not sure what the answer is.

If you hold the cop personally liable there will be zero arrests because you can be sued for so many things. The bad guys will know this and a cop will be sued for most anything and will lose everything he has ever owned. If you think for a second a cop is going to stay on a job where he will for certain lose his house and any money he has you're dreaming. Would you arrest anyone knowing a frivolous lawsuit will break you. The officer has to hire an attorney every time someone goes after him civilly so every arrest because the left will make a game of it. You don't think a certain part of the population wouldn't look for trouble to get arrested so they can cause the officer to lose everything and quit his job? It certainly will happen. Arrests for bad guys will be zero. Why would you believe otherwise? Be prepared to protect yourself because if there is no qualified immunity there will be no arrests. The departments at this time handle all civil suits if the officer acted according to their rules/regulations so if you take that away the cops will also go away. Why do you think the left is pushing for this? Enjoy the riots and lack of protection coming your way. One more thing, do you guys really think the cops get together at shift time and decide who's rights they can violate so they can end up possibly losing their jobs, end up on Facebook where their family's get death threats, and being chastised by the public to name just a few? Really??
Not at all. But property ownership is one of our core tenets in the us. If you accept that police can kick in your front door and detain you then just say oops wrong house and nothing is done then you no longer own anything. The government does.

Remember, you can always sue the municipality that the coppers work for and they be the deep pocket anyway. As long as the cop abides the department's rules and regs then he should be immune from personal suit.

You need to read MM's reply again. Police cannot kick in any door without a search warrant justifying probable cause that justify the standards and agreement of a superior court judge. If a mistake is made in serving the warrant, sue the damn city, county, state, or feds. You will receive appropriate damages without a court battle 99% of the time.

Can't hold us responsible for following orders. I'm sure the SS said the same thing.
The blue Gestapo, enforcing for the crooked politicians.

Just a thought here, but no municipality chose to create laws that empowered the SS to enforce them.

Maybe I'm jaded because of where I grew up, and the dishonesty from politicians and police here, but I'd think it'd be easier to find a virgin dancing in a strip club, than find and honest cop in Louisiana. In over half a century on this spinning rock I've called 911 once, and it was for an ambulance. I would have been much happier if the thugs in blue hadn't shown up.

Sorry to say but the only true virgin there that day was you my friend. Rosebud was a recycled virgin.
