Since the newfangled Rocket is back/still in the shop again I took the old 2004 Goldwing out for a morning ride. It was brisk around 48f but warmed up to almost 60f coming home. The 1832cc flat six does a pretty respectable job. I did about 120 miles of back county roads and farm to market highways and still have almost half a tank of fuel. There were some pretty tight 15mph & 20mph curves where my boots drug a bit. But still pretty nimble for a dressed out touring queen. Anyway, beautiful fall foliage with red sweetgums and brilliant oaks like fire. The newfangled Rocket better look out.

They aren't just for old men.Originally posted by 1olbull View Post2004 Tis a good year for the Wing.
When I grow up and get too old for a roadster, my first Touring bike will likely be a wing

I think I'm a fairly descent rider on my Rocket but in actuality I would have beat my own ass as a younger Mouse riding my 81 Yamaha 1100 Special. I use to beat all of my friends any where any time. I was so comfortable on it and it was so light and powerful (and I was younger) Younger Terry on the Yamaha would embarrass old Terry on the 14 Rocket or the 2020 Rocket. No contest. I loved that bike and wish I still had it. Not the best for anything over a 150 mile day but just a blast to ride.👍

Age does affect your judgement for sure. If I fell today I know it would be a hell of a recovery unlike in my 20's or 30's where you bounce up, put a tourniquet on and finish the ride. I do think about it going into some hot turns and that causes me to slow up. I'm not afraid but a lot more cautious I guess. It's like sometimes I have to clear my head so I can hit it harder but still hold back a touch.

Was your dealership the one in San Antonio. I think CTX?Originally posted by stingray View PostI don't know if I'm more disappointed in my R3 or the dealership. They had such raving reviews seemed like the place to go. Guess I'll have to look out further towards Ft Worth or some small place. Not the joy I was expecting.Last edited by 1olbull; 12-19-2022, 10:59 PM.

There just seems to be so many little bullshit things that can go wrong on the newer gen Rocket. The cheap clusters and mirrors cracking have me scratching my head. Oil leaks, stalling, my gas Evap problem that resulted in a tank removal (with 300 miles or so). It gets annoying especially my intermittent stalling with clutch in coming to a stop. It hasn't happened in about 9 or so months because I don't 'blip' it anymore while downshifting and I use regular or mid grade. No more 91 octane as it makes zero difference in seat of the pants riding. That cheap ass little metal peace that triggers while using the clutch is ridiculous. That is a problem waiting to happen. The Rocket is a blast to ride although spending that much money you would expect it to run good and not just look good. That's what Harley's are for.🤣Actually my 06 Street Bob with a 95" kit was a blast but just too small.

So true, the Harley bashers don't realize just how reliable the newer ones are. I see why there are so many low mileage 20+ Rockets for sale now. Grrrr. But, I still want it to be right but have my doubts these shops are up to the task (or Triumph is). I think they are avoiding me until the warranty expires.
That new Fat Boy 114 in Deadwood Green is looking better every month.

- You know that thing in your head that tells you not to say things?........ Yea, I don't have one
RPM Cycle in Carrollton was really good but they are no longer there. I’ve heard a lot of good reports for Eurosport Cycle in Ft Worth

I might have to carry it to them although it is quite a bit further. The dealer in Plano is worthless. I should have realized that after riding the new Rocket 75 miles home and checked the rear tire only had 28 psi(hot) and 31 psi in the front (hot). They didn't even check the tire pressures on a brand new motorcycle they sold.Last edited by stingray; 12-24-2022, 07:21 AM.

Yes the dealership in Plano is the worst
Eurosport Cycle would be worth the extra distance
