    Stand Alone GPS

Want opinions on a stand alone GPS as opposed to using my phone. I am contemplating buying a Garmin with an 8" screen so as to see more and easier on these old glaucoma riddled eyes. This is for my car. Pro's and con's folks...thanks!

    Can't go wrong with Garmin.
I've had half dozen of them.
If you can't see a 5" screen in a cage, I don't know if you should be driving, Amigo. 😜

Oh I can see it but my girlfriend always told me bigger is better! Seriously tho it would be easier for me or anyone else to see so why not? Do you see any advantages of stand alone vs phone other than screen size???

I've found that the phone gps is not as clear as the garmin screen. Plus I noticed the app overheating and shutting down on the phone.. so I prefer the Garmin unit.

now as for your girlfriend telling you a bigger cunt is better!!! I'm going to leave that one alone

I have to confess I do NOT like all the excess of info on the screen - My Citroen has a built in SatNav (TomTom) and I prefer the "Turn by Turn" option to a map.

I seldom need a SatNav on the Bike - but I did get one of the "Beeline" units that I can sync to a phone - the plus being the phone stays in your pocket.

Certainly here - there is an "advantage" to using for Google Maps. It's the availability of commercial destinations inbedded. It's way easier to say "Take me to Helga's House of Pain" than look up the address and transfer it across to the TomTom.

But I have an in-built hatred of cellphones. So no Helga for me.
