ID:	15561 I thought I would shoot up to Tahoe and enjoy the entire Lake before it got so fucking hot I couldn't breath. I took off at 7AM and got home around 2PM. California is a suck hole although it has beautiful sights. Lake Tahoe and Carmel/Monterey areas are two of my favorite rides. Yosemite is a wonderful place to ride also but it is trying with traffic and crappy roads. I like San Diego area and San Clemente but it's so friggin busy and traffic is unbearable. Here's a few pics from yesterday . The summit looking down to Tahoe and Casinos, Emerald bay and Homewood. Cheers. Click image for larger version

I used to enjoy riding up the San Bernardino mountains through Crestline and Big Bear in the early 80’s. The off road riding was great below Loma Linda.

I lived in Huntington Beach for a year and the Anaheim Hills area also. I hiked up in the San Berdo mountains but never rode. I bet it was a good ride. I have ridden up the PCH from Santa Monica to Monterey a few times and traffic is so bad now it isn't as fun if you have done it before. A definite must do though. Cali does have a beautiful coastline but it's the people and traffic that screw it up.

I have thought about doing a trip out there but there are many negative factors to it.

If you have never done it before then the traffic probably wouldn't factor in too much. If you go in September when school is back in (hopefully) then traffic will be a minimum and it will still be warmer on the coast. It's going to be 104 in the foothills today but the coast in Monterey will be 64 degrees. Go 10 miles inland and it will be very hot so the coast stays cool for the most part year round. The sights are spectacular and the 16 mile ride through Pebble Beach around Carmel is unbelievable. It's worth the trip but be aware of the increasing crime that California is having. It's going through the roof around the big cities. Stay clear of SF, San Jose, Oakland and if possible most of LA. Sad but true. You should be fine on the coast so if it were me I would put it on my bucket list as the first time I did it even as a kid I loved it.

Missed this one Lupe. Only 3 1/2 years late. I was on my own and not much into selfies but I should have at least tried. Then you guys would be jealous of my Brad Pitt looks.

It's almost 2025 and Cali is still attached. My wish is that SF and Oakland go first then LA to follow. Maybe San Jose as it's gotten bad also. To be fair I want only the criminals to perish and then all of the Far, very far, way far Left Morons that aren't criminals (are there any) can move to Texas. I mean New York!!

I have been to Eureka coming back from Oregon and became NAUI dive Fresh/Salt water certified in Fort Bragg many years ago. I only have driven through Fortuna. If all goes to plan and my surgery goes well I may find out... 🤞

I didn’t. My Doc and second opinions stated 3 separate surgeries would be required. Possibly 2 but realistically 3. My neck and lower back are a mess. Ruptured protrusion in my disks with nerve damage and advanced arthritis with zero assurances it will get better or even let me have less pain. The general consensus was “If you can walk and not cry then wait until you can’t”. I get nerve shots in my neck and epidurals for my lower back along with an assortment of meds. Good times. Now don’t think I’m an invalid (sp) cause I’m not. I can ride but anything over 75-100 miles and I’m fucked for the rest of the day. My buddy and I didn’t make the Concord to Monterey to Santa Monica we did in 1981 because on Sept 3 my Lexus got totaled with hit and run driver. He was caught. That slowed me way down but nothing that will keep me from going next May with my buddy. Oh it’s on!!! Thanks for asking my friend.

Highway 1 south of Big Sur is STILL closed. It’s been over 2 years. Must be another permit thing. Only in California.

It’s still on for the end of May or the first week of June. The coast is now open. Until the next rain storm anyway. Stay in Monterey ridding down to Santa Barbara and return. A 3 day trip. Not going to do the entire ride we did in 1981 down the coast and then across to Anaheim. That would have us ridding through parts of LA. Why would I want to do that. The return trip in 1981 had us coming up I 5 with no windshield or helmets in 100 degree heat with heavy winds and sand. It was brutal. Oh yeah, a hangover also. Not fun!!

So much crap going on. Wife’s mom just passed and her brother is pretty ill to say the least. I’m going through more stuff but will be fine in about a month. My poor buddy is still waiting for that ride. Not going to happen in May but maybe fingers crossed beginning of June. We will shorten it as far south as San Luis Obispo and make it a 3 day ride.
