    Carpenter questions..

I was able to get on the beast for the first time today, doctor said i could, as im getting to know it, i find out that from 0 to 4krpm it acts like any other rocket, after 4k you better hang on,,.
    So, here are the questions;
Deceleration popping, normal? if not, how do i get rid of it?
What all is upgraded with the 240 kit?
how do the transmission and the drive shaft handle the extra power?
Now i can rev it the entire red zone?
According to Bob Carpenter, the filters rob power, my throttle bodies are fully unprotected without filters, he said riding in the rain or insects sucked into the engine will not hurt it, this is a race bike that will never be raced, what filters are people using for Carpenter bikes?
    Thanks in advance!!

That there is a mouth full, Amigo. πŸ˜€
ALWAYS run air filters!!! The K&N 6" X 4" (number not handy) are what most use.
You NEED a qualified dyno tuner and tune - period. This should eliminate the popping.
I would occasionally go up to red line, but not sustain (right back down) for about 250 miles.
From their web site for the 240 kit:
    Includes:
    β€’ CNC Ported Head
    β€’ Custom-Ground Proprietary Cam
    β€’ Slotted Adjustable Cam Sprockets
    β€’ 12 Custom, Shim-Under Tappets
    β€’ Custom Titanium Retainers
    β€’ Custom Valve Springs
    β€’ Custom-Forged, Domed, Semi-Slipper pistons
    β€’ Custom Clutch springs

Steel’s bike has quite a bit of decel pop and I think it is tuned.

No one has touched this bike other than Carpenter, Bud sent it back to tune it if i remember correctly, the popping don't bother me, i just don't want to break something

Most race cars, specially British, decel pop. I am no expeeert but, if you don't want decel pop, buy a Valkarie and leave it stock. If you make a big motor breathe like a dragon his breath will light on fire. Same with shallow throttle settings. Performance motors don't deal well with shallow throttle settings or staying at idle. Never seen a bike up on a dyno where the shallow throttle settings were tweaked, even examined. The idea is to make the motor work under load with the throttle open. Can't see paying someone a few hundred $$$ and ask the tuner to eliminate the decel pop? Just my 2 cnts. Race engines are made to play hard and loud. For example, my Magna has K&Ns and custom jetting. It does not like shallow throttle settings and low rpms but, if you open the throttle and left it go over 4000 rpm, hold on.

From my ignorant position, the damage dangers come while shifting under high rpm and load and missing a gear. OBull gave me the best advice for that... ricardo, preload your shifter. You have a lot of experience Lupe. Have fun with this new Super Rocket. Sell me the R-X.

I run K&N 1770s, Carpenter said he liked them, had never seen them, but mine is a touring, different tank shape, same throttle bodies, I needed the 17Β° offset. Rev limiter will stop it at 9000 rpm, I've hit it a couple times, no ill effects, power drops off quite a bit after 8500 rpm anyway, if I remember right that would be where you'd shift if drag racing, maybe 8200, but about there.

Mine pops a bit on deceleration, it's basically a full race cam, to be expected, I think

Rick, there is a line of people wanting to buy the X, i decided to keep it since it is 91 out of 500, hopefully one day it will be a classic.
As far as the Carpenter,,,,, i was going to use it to go to church every sunday, riding on the streets to keep it under 45mph and not to rev it over 2500rpm

I think the high HP Carpenter motors are not suited to putting around. They are built for high revs and big power. When discussing what I was going to do on my bike way back in Stearns, Steel and Warp recommended a high torque build instead of high HP for the type of riding I was doing in the mountains. They were spot on for my type of riding.

My advice is run that Carpenter hard but in long straights.πŸ€—

The midnight drags in San Francisco? No hurry, they go nightly.

Nope you don't have it. Let your daughter drag race if you want to win

I never said that. I enjoy the high hp . Warp kept telling you it was too much in the curves. It's that nobody listens when I speak.

Not a big deal brother. I can only use all the hp in a strait line. Sandy's bike has less than half the hp of my bike, and she leaves me way behind in the twisties. But I still want all the hp I can get.

              Deceleration popping, normal?
Yes. Open pipe with lots of fuel, gives it a bit of grumbling. Plus the pipe is all slipped together, with lots of places where outside air can be sucked in. But I would get in on a dyno. Bob only tunes for top hp. My bike runs much smoother since Tommy tuned it.

how do the transmission and the drive shaft handle the extra power?
Good if the circlips were installed right at the factory.

              Filters?
