    Always trust your instinct

    &#Q)&(Q^)Q%03q

F^&(^ by a typo in a 20 year old Kawasaki FACTORY manual. I should have gone with my gut - 12 ft-lb on an M6 seemed high. Also shouldn't have trusted Imperial units (lbf-ft) in a Japanese sourced manual.

Fixed both the stripped cam bearing holes in KZ

First put cam lobes associated with bearing cap to as near base circle as I could to prevent possibly damaging cam

On one cap the stripped hole held the bearing register, which conveniently made an excellent drill guide

loading grease on the drill and tap caught the shavings

Installed helicoil making sure it was below dowel pin shoulder

Job done with torque to reasonable 105 lbf-in vs 12 lbf-ft (factory manual)

Fixing more stripped threads -these on the valve cover. Bolted down the cover with a $45 gasket and some silicone in selected places - wouldn't you know it, bolt was stripped where it had been leaking. Ebay tools to the rescue. My 6mm thread are now 1/4-28. I'll helicoil them back at the next valve check

Amazing what will run in a engine. I also love ebay - got a used correct tensioner for install.
