New Battery

Interesting, I am pretty sure I replaced a perfectly good battery. Despite Ken's assurances that the keyless ignition battery drain was insignificant, after a week on no tender, the battery I took out was at 100%, the new battery in bike was down to 80%. I always use a tender for long term storage, but I shouldn't need one week to week, definitely an inconvenience

I have two Rocket Roadsters, one is a 2011 & one is a 2012. They are pretty much identical. Both have new batteries. With no riding, the one with the keyless will go dead in about 6 days. The one without lasts over a month before it won't start the engine.Originally posted by Tripps View PostInteresting, I am pretty sure I replaced a perfectly good battery. What is the best way to check if the stator is charging well? Will the resting voltage of the battery drop after a ride if the stator is not working right? How do you differentiate a bad regulator from a bad stator or a bad connection? All i have is a cheap ohm meter. In battery checker mode the meter reads only to 9 volts? (2007 Classic 60 k miles, yuasa gel <1 year old.) Does anyone carry a lithium jump starter pack?

On the bike. They sell these power bricks to run DC stuff. Just wondered if anyone had tried them on their touring adventures to power phones while in the camped-out.

You mean the USB power Packs? - or the JUMP packs which can also power USB. I have a mate in Maine (who's sort of dropped of the radar a bit) - He likes camping even in the snow. He carries(carried anyway) a couple of small STARTER packs. It's a better known make, though the name escapes me. I have a NOCO that will jump big diesels in winter.

When traveling, I always carry a good "Noco" jump starter with me. It will easily run/charge my cell if needed.
Recently I've purchased a sweet compact "Nexpow" portable power station. This little brick will run my C-Pap for a couple nights.
I will carry it when towing so I can nap in vehicle when necessary on the drive to my unload location.
My bivouac days are long D-O-N-E, but it should save a little on hotel costs. This thing would easily carry in a saddle bag if needed.

The NOCO I bought last year failed!? It used to go through a battery check cycle when connected... no mas. It seems to charge but not shut off and blink green when fully charged state is reached. Ill check on the NewBox. Can it help start the bike if the onboard one fails in the middle of nowhere?Last edited by 1K9; 02-14-2021, 09:11 PM.

So God bless Motobatt, DeCosse, and Power Commander. I left the Rocket outside the other night, it wasn't supposed to rain until real late morning. My wife came in and woke me up, your headlights are on. I got dressed, went out, I'm standing in the garage, it's pouring like it only can in Florida, one of those 2" in 20 minutes downpours. Every light on the bike is on, including the instruments. I didn't even have the fob out there, it finally let up to a normal downpour, I ran out and tried it, it just barely caught, but stalled. I thought no way will I get a second try, lights been on a minimum of 20 minutes, plus who knows how long before wife went out and saw them.
It started and ran. I pulled it in, I had just read a post the day before where Hanso said he was in a rain so hard it got into headlight switch and high beams were going on and off, so I figured that was it
Except it started without the fob. I pulled the seat to put charger on, the air box was full of water, right to the top, my keyless ignition module and power Commander were underwater, I mean completely. I pumped the water out power Commander looked to be sealed, opened the ignition module, dumped it out, blew it out with air, the lights started going out, got the wife's hair dryer and dried it out, the last of the lights went out, everything works good as new, surprisingly

Damn keyless ignition, I will say that now that DeCosse isn't making them anymore, it's just not for me, I'm going to re- hook-up the key, I replaced a perfectly good battery for nothing, I couldn't believe it would kill a good battery in a week so I bought a new battery. I checked the old battery after a month sitting on the shelf, still 90%. Having to keep it always on a tender and having to keep the fobs in the house is just too much trouble. I live rural, I normally never take keys out of ignition on any car or bike and I don't lock my doors.

I need one for YurMama.
Have enjoyed the one on Kong for many years.
It does run my bat flat in 5-6 days without a Tom Cruise.

Chris, what does this mean?Originally posted by Tripps View PostI didn't like it either, every time got on the bike, I remembered that the key was in the house, I never would have gotten it if I had known that you can't keep the fob with the bike
"I never would have gotten it if I had known that you can't keep the fob with the bike"
The fob must remain with the bike, or the rider, or it will not re-start once stopped, same as the Harley OEM fobs.

I meant when bike is off, you can't keep fob near bike, or you will kill both bike and fob batteries.Originally posted by 1olbull View Post
